The Kitchen is The Heart of The home

I'm posting this photo, because I like it.
As some may know -- based on notes posted previously -- I'm working on my kitchen.  It appears I'm going to milk this undertaking, sharing random photos of the space both on whim and as it evolves.
(Is that OK?) I don't know if a photo stylist could have planned and arranged such a spontaneous and warm moment as this one -- a treasured memory spent with friends.... We'd be hung up on getting the right wine glass, over-analyzing the items in the sink, real lemons would read better than a yellow bottle of concentrate, the copper bucket atop the side cupboard might be too dark, and so on. I remember reading years ago an interview with an interior designer who said she liked to snap candid shots of her home -- in use. If it looked appealing even when messy and "un-styled," then she deemed it a successful look. (I remember my husband reinforcing that notion as well.  I prefer tidy looks but one particular holiday time, I had strewn around some wrappings and such. He asked that I not clean it up too soon; he liked it. It felt comfortable.) By the way, this is our friend Jody, who owns a seafood whole-sale company and Magnolia Bar & Grill in Houston. If you like Cajun food, visit....  He shipped up sea bass to cook for us. Yum!  We're enjoying our summer; hope you are, too!

A kitchen can only be the heart of a home if it reflects the hearts of the people who use it. The most gorgeous, state of the art, designer kitchen that no one ever uses can't be the "heart" because it hasn't the "soul" that comes from family meals and friendly gatherings, homework, housework, dog bowls on the floor and birthday cupcakes in the oven. Your kitchen is obviously the heart of your home... the proof is in the dirty dishes and the smile on your friend's face!

I just "stumbled" here and love your pictures! Somehow the kitchen and food get all tied up together in our warm and fuzzy memories :) I enjoyed my visit!

Just blog hopping and enjoyed reading yours....I love making new blog friends and love looking at all the different blog designs.

Hi Susan - I agree with Tracy at comfort and luxury - the heart of the home is where it all happens! I fuss at my husband and kids for the junk they pile on the kitchen counters, but it is where we all tend to gather and talk and laugh..........and do homework and various other things. Your kitchen is lovely - it is the Colorado house, right? Oh yes, I know it is because I saw the other one in the magazine! Hope you are enjoying your summer!

Hi Susan,
Thought I'd "pop" over for a quick look to see if you had posted anything of late and a nice surprise too to see another photo of your kitchen (It's nice to see the wall that initial photo couldn't see) and it's completely fine by me that you show photo's as the mood takes you!!!! Sounds like you are having a wonderful summer - seafood sounds fantastic. If I could (to add to my ideal world) I would/could live on seafood every day YUM!!! Enjoy those summer days, can't wait until its warms up here some. Need to get back to the bookwork now - needs to be done by tomorrow and I've barely started!!!!

Take Care

What a great cooking "cave"..., I'd love to have one of those where you hang the pot over the fire. I think it would be perfect for cold New England!

I can't wait to see your finished kitchen!

I so agree that the best photos are the casual, unplanned ones. One of my favorite photos of my last kitchen my husband took and it had cookies cooling on the island and all the mess that goes with baking cookies. I tend to wait until things are "in place" so I love the true essence of the kitchen that he captured.
How lucky to have a chef in your kitchen!!

I love the rocky mountain look in your kitchen...that sounds a bit goofy... but I love to see what you are going to do without spending the big bucks. I just bought a house and am trying to be creative in the kitchen re-design.
